excited!

My AS boy, who is usually a jellylike lump of despair in the mornings, is flipping out with joy over his math art project. Geometry has taken us to tessellations, and I showcased his tessellating piece (4 x 4 square, one piece cut out, rotated 270 degrees and reattached) and subsequent drawing as one of the most intricate and precise examples in the class. He is BOUNCING and BEAMING, and has just run off to show his work to his SPED teacher. It's one of the rare times I've seen him smile before 11 a.m.

The artist-mathematician, by the way, named his work "Melting Head of a Game Show Host." I know all this is a little difficult to understand without visuals, so maybe later. Good Thursday!
