it's always something

Except for the one evening S really, really needed the can opener and couldn't find it because I was lugging it around in my backpack, bringing a can of tuna + dab of mayo + 1 Tbsp capers has been working out great for lunch. It is neither a filling nor fragrant lunch, but it's quick, easy, and yummy. But apparently, I'm supposed to be eating canned light tuna because it contains less mercury than albacore, and anyone of "childbearing age" should only be eating it twice a week anyway to avoid having this conversation in their future:

"Why is your kid twitching like that?"
"Too many tuna sandwiches ..."

But now the FDA says the benefits of eating fish outweigh the risks of mercury exposure? According to the EPA, those benefits include being a low-fat source of high-quality proteins (yogurt and tofu being two others) and omega-3's (which also carry some health risks, along with the benefits). The risks of mercury overexposure, by the way, are brain and nervous system disorders (and serious developmental issues in babies), fertility issues, and a possible link to heart disease.

Thanks, but I think I'll stick to the EPA-recommended two servings of fish per week.
