weekend

Last Friday these two lovelies perched on the car parked next to mine at work. Not sure if they are escaped pets. I've been seeing them from time to time, pretty sure it's always the same pair. They put me in a great mood because they're so ... well, civilized. They "talk," play, and groom each other, and sometimes one will hop a short distance away and the other will just chill out on the mirror or the fence, but when they fly away, they fly together. Sigh.

Went to the 'Iolani Family Fair w/K, kids & grandma Friday afternoon to blow off some steam and eat some awful carnival food. We did the Cake Walk, ate malasadas, raided the White Elephant. Kids went on some puke-inducing rides. Right: A & A on the Barf-o-Meter (nah, I think it's called the Mind Twister or something). Asher really did get sick, btw. He stumbled off the ride and had to be pushed around in baby's stroller for the rest of the afternoon. These pics are huge, by the way - didn't have time to resize them. Probably best not to click on 'em.

You can't really see from this photo that Ari took, but this is me having a hey of a time pushing the stroller containing Asher AND Mahina AND four artichokes, $30 worth of White Elephant finds, and a really dense chocolate cake. TWO BIG KIDS in a stroller made for one moderately-sized one are not easy to move. It took ages to push them on a straightaway. It took ages to get down off the curb. It took more ages to get back on to the sidewalk after crossing the street, with cars inching toward us as our light turned red and theirs turned green. It never occurred to us to kick the kids out of the stroller. It must have taken twenty minutes to walk from the grounds to the car. Posting this pic because seriously, I have not laughed that hard in forever. The kind of laugh where if you don't stop right where you are, you will pee your pants. Aaand we'll not talk about the rest of the afternoon.

And Saturday morning, Daphne got a bath. Notable because it's her first in about three years. We drove out to Pearl City in the morning to get both our cars washed (Cub's hasn't been washed in all the time he's owned it.) Work friend's church group is raising money for a mission trip to Asia. Anyway, naturally, that day I parked Daphne under a tree, and you know the rest. I hope she enjoyed her bath because it might be three more years before she has another one.
