test post

Yay! Blogging from Flickr!

Conference week has 1) made me sick (literally), 2) made me appreciate my kids more fully, 3) made me realize how blessed I am to have heeded the call to this profession, 4) made me insanely busy. I have managed to get back in the pool, though, and I've started using the kids' alpha numbers to keep track of my laps. That accomplishes two things: makes me less likely to forget which lap I'm on ("Lap Deanna" and "Lap Jose" are so much easier to remember than "Lap 6" and "Lap 14"); also, it gives me 50 meters to concentrate on each kid. What do I need to do with/for/to them tomorrow? How can I help them tomorrow? Yesterday I got to Lap Jana (20); today I only got to Lap Summer (10).

I'll be absent for the rest of the week and the weekend, most likely. Because conference week flows right into WEDDING WEEKEND! I am so excited - my girl Steve, aka the Peahen, aka my best friend, is getting married. If we could have seen into the future, maybe 5 years ago, I would have thrown my shoe at the girl. But her fiance seems to have made a complete 180, has proven that he loves and can take care of her (and be taken care of by her), and I hope they'll happily grow old together, even if she is going to live in Tacoma for her entire life to come.

Friday - belated birthday dinner for my sweetie; Saturday - spa morning and mini-shower for Peahen; Sunday - wedding bells.

Ciao!

My biggest frustration with swimming is that I can't get anything done while I do it. If I run or bike I can listen to podcasts. So, I love the idea of counting laps by students and really mulling them over while swimming. That is brilliant!
