while i wait for the mailman ...
More boring hikey stats. Seventh hike up Kuliouou, three times to the top, four times halfway (including today). Third trial of the summer, second timed trial. NO TIME DIFF - again, 45 minutes up (although I do confess, I sprinted the last 100 meters so as not to add time). I fully blame the huge pack of little Brownie hikers we had to stand aside for! J/K. (Although seeing a bunch of little girls cruise down the mountain looking none the worse for wear did add fuel to my fire.) Didn't run down this time, because of minor shin pain.
Next hike: Friday.
Next immediate physical endeavor: Swimming, tomorrow. Take some pressure off my joints. Will establish a nonstop baseline (100 meters? 150? :P) to improve upon much as I hope to see my hiking time improve.

a sprint huh?
what's your pre-hike activity? stretching? drinking water?
try adding weight (small backpack with something) and doing it in the same time. it doesn't sound hard but 5lbs (or more) added to the overall exercise does make a difference.
i did my hiking with a camelbak and medic bag. fun stuff, that medic bag felt like a ton afterwards, but when i took it off i wanted to go rock climbing from all that extra energy not being expended carrying the bag.
pre-hike activity. um ... picking up dog poop? (he likes to get it out of the way before we hit the trail.)
what is a camelbak?
dog's pre-hike activity is similar to mine. although no one picks up after me.
camelbak, um, it's this hydration system that you can wear on your back. sorta like a camel's back.
it's good stuff. cheap now too. go get one.
oh, those are adorable. one of my kids brought one to our school fun run (um ... five laps around the schoolyard). i know it's supposed to be really practical, but i will forever find it the cutest thing ever.
i guess you could call'em cute, but since it is almost standard issue military use i was going for an adjective a little more manly.
Great. My Camelbak HotShot, purchased and used specifically for manly activities, may be "the cutest thing ever." Good thing my pack has a hydration pocket for me to hide my shame.
apologies all around to the manly men. the camelbak is WAY masculine, not at all cute; they don't at ALL remind me of insulated sippy cups :)
