If you squint, you can see Kona standing next to my brother's wife Vanessa and her boyfriend Tyler. Don't think too hard about any of that. Mart and his friend Karen are farther ahead, and Linda, who wasn't feeling well, is sitting next to me. We took the trail at a leisurely pace, and stayed at the halfway point so Linda could recover while the other four went all the way up.

So, Kuliou'ou V was untimed but surprisingly enjoyable. I've been so busy racing myself up the trail that I haven't taken the time, lately, to appreciate the sights, sounds, and smells. On weekdays, other hikers are few and far between. It's very quiet except for the birds and, near the halfway point, the wind rushing through the trees, sounding deceptively like ocean waves.

Didn't make it to the pool, but went home and made chunky spaghetti for dinner while Mart and Linda forced themselves to sit through some early episodes of "Sex and the City." Scott and I had dinner with Anthony Bourdain in Shanghai ("No Reservations"), then checked out an episode of the new show, "Lawrence in America." Two hours with the Travel Channel and I'm dying to eat rice noodles in Shangri-La - and buy a mini-trampoline.

Tmw: Bankies, straighten things out with the church yet again, swim, CPK (yum!) w/Niranda, wedding ring shopping with honey, plan Friday's dinner menu. Did I mention I LOVE summer?

Kona: What are you, some kind of a Jedi? Mind tricks don't work on me!
Ms. D_C: Damn!

that looks like a nice easy trail. you gotta go for the "rugged" that'll really get your heart pumping, right up until the heart attack.

so it's undecided when me and my friends are gonna go back for more hiking. i wanna go again soon, but who knows, it's a long drive.

ahem, that's the beginning, where it's easy. :P

well, come on back to hawaii. great hikes everywhere and you can't drive for more than a couple of hours in any direction. and that's if you drive slow.

oh sure.

btw. that pic only proves that you're a nerd. it's not libel if it's true.

please don't tell me that you have hiking planned as part of your wedding. and i haven't gotten my invitation yet either...

dude, the invitations are this WHOLE other story. as soon as the church gets their act together we can print the dang thing.
