life-getting, pt 2

Mark's Garage needs to be torn down and rebuilt with a design that makes some kind of sense. I was very curious about First Friday, and now, having gone once, I know all I need to know: all those people who talk about how cool it is aren't actually in the galleries; they're getting their mojitos on at Indigo or getting in fistfights at Murphy's and then on Monday morning reporting that they "went to First Friday."

We skipped the line at Bar 35 thanks to a security connection (not mine, I'll tell you that much - bouncers hate me) and snagged some seats in the courtyard. Bar 35 is a thousand square feet of semi-air-conditioned space with a few couches and some throw pillows. Hip and dark (it's almost pitch-black inside) - it's a great place to take an unattractive date.

We did hit the galleries but were so unimpressed (and frankly freaked out by the ultra-vigilant cops, who were ticketing people left and right for jaywalking, and not wearing seatbelts, and getting sarcastic with people who blocked the sidewalk) that we dug out and ended up at my friend's sushi counter over an hour earlier than expected. Life-getting Part II concluded with front-row seats to the hand-rolling show and a most excellent spicy tuna. Not bad at all. Even if I am going to sleep before 12 for the second Friday in a row.
