all twitterpated
Twitter's got me completely spoiled. But it's been too long a while since posting here if my husband actually pointed out that I haven't blogged lately. So, where to begin?
We're moving, which I mentioned before, but a progress report: On the painting front, we finished the living room and half of the kitchen before the holidays descended upon us with a fury (not a flurry, a fury) of parties and whatnot - and so we abandoned ship for quite some time. January rolled around and Bright Idea #1 bonked me in the head: pay someone else to do it! Someone who is better at it than I am and who has more time than Cub! Brother and sister, we love you dearly for joining the crew of the Good Ship Kermit (the house is named after the color of our kitchen. Although it's entirely possible that this is only true in my mind.)
Furlough Fridays persist. Bad for the kids, good for my cross-training.
Running: We can now more or less comfortably run a three-mile circuit - together. I used to have to do a much easier route by myself, and we'd meet up back at home, but these days, a little more distance comes a lot easier. Last Friday I got to the top of KKH in 23:47, with no pauses or tightness. Biggest differences: I look forward to running rather than dreading it, and I've quit watching what we eat like a hawk. If I want a bean burrito from the drive thru on the way home from work, I get one. I don't watch Cub eat (or what he eats) anymore. As a result of all of this, my jeans are tighter but I'm more fit overall - if you measure fitness by endurance and resting heart rate. (And go figure, Cub is exactly the same as he was when I was the "cut that fat off your chicken" Nazi. No bigger, no smaller, no less fit.)
Volunteer stuff: still haven't gotten myself kicked off WKHT scholarship committee. Almost time to put together 2010 ACUW fashion show. Cub and I were appointed Supply Couple for CEE. I've started volunteering with RAP. This year's Speech Festival is coming up in May. That's it I think. Cub says I have too much on my plate at any given time, but I can't imagine a life less full than this.
Went to the bank today to make deposits, pay mortgage, etc. Bright spot in a tired, tiring day: Checking our rainy day fund and reviewing the budget. I am a fan of Suze Orman's simple, practical advice (all that stuff the naysayers naysay - I don't need or pay attention to.) One of her simple, practical pieces is to have 6 - 8 months' worth of expenses saved up in case of sudden unemployment, etc. We're building it painfully slowly - but with marked steadiness. That's the nice thing (in a sea of un-nice things) about being in charge of the finances. Always knowing exactly where we are in relation to our financial goals.
Oh and ... Sunday we'll have been married for a year! But that's an entry for the other blog.
:)
