xinnian kuai le!

Omg, The Gau Box made its second annual appearance on our kitchen table today. Despite feeling, for whatever reason, like I was going to throw up for the better part of the afternoon and early evening, I had a healthy-sized piece of coconut-flavored gau (I went for it immediately, bypassing the almond and whatever else was in there, as I'd pegged coconut as my favorite last year) and considered begging my brother to ask The Maker for the recipe. I refrained, though - he refused to ask last year, and well, it's not like I'd actually go and make myself some coconut gau. Better to just enjoy the magic as long as it keeps appearing in our house.

I didn't get to celebrate CNY w/the kids, as we had an Articulation Day today. I actually have never really made a big deal out of CNY in the classroom, and I don't know why, considering how nuts we are about Chinatown and our general heritage and the general craziness we go through every lunar new year (although I really do draw the line at this year's "ox costumes" that weren't really ox costumes at all.) Next year, I'll do something cool with the kids. Coconut gau? Sigh.

Speaking of tonight's turkish delight, it's the only thing sitting in my stomach right now. I don't know where the queasiness came from - possibly from BBQ chicken at SuperPho - but as I said, it cleared up once I sent the coconut gau down the hatch. I promised S as he drifted off to NyQuil Neverland that I would eat something before going to bed, but am still not sure whether it's a good idea to risk it. Sleeping on an empty stomach is not nearly as bothersome as sleeping on a queasy one.
