the valley of tears

Everyone Cries.

I had to assure my class of this yesterday afternoon, as Everyone Did.

Meltdowns of that magnitude (OK it wasn't Everyone, but six kids crying simultaneously - particularly in the fifth grade - is a lot) are rare.

Two were sobbing because they were in deep kim chee for an assortment of things I have no time or desire to recap. Another was blubbering because, I found out later, he wanted to talk about being mistreated by his parents. Yet another had a teary freak-out when I roared at him for answering a call from his mom on his cell phone in class (the ironic thing is, I was joking; I have no time to explain the "joking roar" but trust me, everyone got it but him) and then his girl-friend (not girlfriend) started crying, too.

Buddha Jr. (not feeling so creative right now), knowing I was going to call his parents about the day's long list of violations, gave me another Rice Krispies treat yesterday. "Because I have been so out of it," he said, batting his lashes. "I'm sorry."

Sweet. But I still called his dad.

OMG- bribing the teacher- how hilarious!

Sounds like you had FUN at school that day... bet you were all like, "Lord, please make this week go by slow- Iʻm loving this too much to have a weekend of peace and solitude."

Hehe.
