specific dreams

Randy Pausch, husband, father, former Carnegie Mellon professor and author of The Last Lecture, passed away on July 25. I had just learned about him the day before, at our year-opener meeting, at which we watched a truncated version of his "lecture" on Oprah. During his life he wrote and spoke memorably about life, joy, and specific dreams. It is a teacher's privilege - and the life's work of a parent - to nurture the specific dreams of children. A great reminder and a huge loss - for all of us who share his philosophy - as we open the school year.
