lowdown06
Gol, was so busy trying to come up with a post of Substance of Unheard of Magnitude (way too many "of"s in that phrase) that I plumb neglected to do a year-in-review. So, here it is ...
I didn't leave the island once. I don't think that's ever happened in my life before - a full year going by without an off-island adventure of some sort. I am full prepared to make up for it in '07.
Work was work-y. Highlights: taking the kids to the annual Chevron Speech Festival in April; counselor telling me I was the best teacher KK ever had; Roberto singing "I Feel Good" at the Magic of Polynesia. Oh yeah, and we made AYP ... go us.
I moved out in June, and now live the perfect short distance from my ancestral digs. That was six months ago and I still on occasion waltz around the apartment singing, "Mine, mine, MINE! ..." (think "Pocahontas.")
Had a chance to reprise the '05 China trip; decided to teach summer school instead. I then felt deprived of a decent vacation because the regular school year started up at the end of July.
Also at the end of July (actually, after my first day of teaching ended) I went to the Art After Dark event curiously titled "House"; went home with my first piece of wall art for the new place, a little trivia about Stephen Starr, and a phone number.
I said goodbye to my beloved Djalibean, gave up coffee, broke my camera, became co-chair of a horrifically complicated fundraiser, started eating Kashi products, got pierced (again), inherited a new bunch of fifth graders, fell into something unexpectedly good, tried ceramics, tried watercolors, did not get drunk at my 10-year high school reunion, started running (kind of), laughed a lot, read excellent books. Blue funks notwithstanding, it was a pretty good year.
Bonne Annee ...
