she's a professional, all right

Funny, the freak/nerd debate. I half-blogged this morning about watching "Closer" last night and how Natalie Portman was seriously awesome as Jane "Alice" Jones but how I loved her first in "The Professional" and later in my all-time geekiest obsession, "The Phanton Menace." The old Star Wars movies put me to sleep, except for the trash compactor, Cantina, and all parts with Darth Vader (and I cannot tell which scene came from what film to save my life), but I so loved Episode One that I actually lusted after certain action figures and bought a Lego set featuring Darth Maul on his little Sith Scooter. What I really wanted, had I been able to find a die-cast replica of the right size, was a Naboo Royal Starship. I had dreams about the final showdown between Maul, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon.

And that's enough about that.

I guess I'd rather be a nerd than a geek, because the intelligence of nerds seems farther-reaching. I can't qualify as a geek anyway, because I have no gadgets, have a broad range of interests, would never name my kid Anakin (I will one day link the blog of this freak I read who did this), own only one installment of Star Wars, and can't even make a good organic light saber sound.

Discovery of the Week: Tuscan Style Green Olive Bread from Safeway. I have been carrying a dwindling loaf in my bag since Monday.

you're so nerdy. you've got your books, i've got my electronics. yeah, you can't be a geek. you like episode one. ask any 'real' geek, it was just a 3-hour long trailer for attack of the clones.
i forgive you though, you're just a nerd. =P

The Professional is a favorite. My daughter will not be named Mathilda, though. Maybe Max.
