good omens

I stepped outside at 10:05 this morning to bring the kids back in from recess, and they were saying, "Look at the sun! Look at the sun!" I kept saying "No! And don't you look at the sun either!" But Steve downstairs was pointing upwards with a huge smile on his face, so I looked. The overhang of the roof blocked a sliver but I got to see most of it - the sun, with a rainbow halo. Steve was saying something about it being a sign, but I couldn't hear him over the chatter of the kids. They got over it quicker than I did. After they went inside the classroom I kept hanging over the railing and looking up, thinking, I know it's not for only me, but I think I'm supposed to take special note.

Had a dinner/meeting at my place last night, and I served New York Style Bagel Crisps with basil and prosciutto-stuffed mozzarella. Nummy. NYSBC would be maybe #14 or so on my list of the Top 100 Things That Make Me Happy, were I ever to actually compile such a list. I still remember my first encounter with NYSBC - I was massively late to an engagement party on the west side and had to stop at Safeway (Gift Card Central) for a present. I was really hungry. Along with my Nordstrom GC I grabbed a bag of roasted garlic bagel crisps, the entire contents of which I proceeded to eat on the drive over. Love.

Early risers of the recreational sort, on the Top 100 Things, would come in at maybe 39. It's the hardest thing in the world for me to get up early but when I am forced to it makes me happy to see other people enjoying the morning. Every day as I get on the freeway at Ward I see this guy outside his house just hanging out with his tomato plants, inspecting his fence, or just kind of standing there in his yard. I like seeing that guy.

When I play Mozart's Symphony no. 35 in G minor and the kids start writing in time to the strings - that would come in at 8.

I used to really enjoy a good thunderstorm, but I think I will give that spot (number 18 or so?) to rainbow halos.

The amount of work my project partner and I have signed on for is staggering. We're still managing to say things like, "This is fun!" and "Cool idea," and "We can hit up 40 stores in one weekend, no problem." Stayed up till 11:30 perusing old pageant booklets for people we can coerce into modeling (free), fine-tuning the sponsorship pitch, wondering if it's possible to free up $9k and choreo backstage ourselves instead of hiring an agency to handle the ladies.

When you think of it, through the years the two of us have done a lot of fashion-related work in the name of scholarship programs. Not the likeliest conclusion about us you could arrive at - which is what makes it so fun.

"it's a sign?" what is this? the dark ages? all you saw was light waves being defracted by various air particles, a little oxygen, nitrogen, helium, methane, and other light gases. in fact, all rainbows are circular in nature but are usually blocked from view. it's just like seeing a rainbow from above.
sorry to ruin your day, but i love the discovery science channel.

you get a nod for your choice of NYSBC. they are addictive. whenever i start i don't finish until the bag's empty and i feel guilty about not keeping my promise not to eat it all this time. stupid nerdy zebra make me all hungry and stuff.

dude, i know what a rainbow is. still, science doesn't squash happiness ...

p.s. buy the LITTLE bags of NYSBC. that way you can eat it all and not feel guilty.

if i buy the little bags, then i end up buying like 20 of them... then i feel weird going up to the counter. the clerk looks at me like, "dude, you could buy the big bags." it's just psychology vs. economics.
