cindy, witty

August Art after Dark theme: "It's a Wrap!". Spent most of the time in the Hawaii Gallery, where Scott named every fish in Hubert Vos' Study of Hawaiian Fish and I enjoyed a Georgia O'Keefe painting a little too much.

Chicago in October: $1460. The moderately-priced hotel Travelocity offers up is a stone's throw from the Art Institute, the Field Museum, and Shedd Aquarium. What I want to see at AI: Hokusai, Seurat, Warhol. What I want to see at Field: Sue and Tut. What I want to see at Shedd: dwarf gaimans and the green anaconda. Do I want to see these things by myself? I guess. The first and last time I traveled solo was Summer of '99. I went to San Francisco fresh out of a breakup, and I spent a fair amount of time wandering up and down Grant Avenue thinking about how much my Missed One would love SF. I also was naive enough to BART to the public library somewhere south of Market, for which I got good scoldings from my aunt, uncle and several cousins. I had a good time, on the whole.

Still, SF is so much closer to home than the midwest. I was a small wreck coming home from Los Angeles last December, and that was a paltry 5-hour flight. I guess I have a little more time to think about it ... a little.
