a mistake only i could make

Fish dissection. The kids loved it, as last year's did, but this is the last time for me. I had to stretch things pretty far to hit even one science standard, and even the Language Arts benchmarks were tough to find. One kid cheerfully told me that after he threw up once he was fine, and three or four girls had to leave the room, but other than that, and the minor dorsal fin stab wound, it was a success. A bloody, hands-on, standards-free mess of a success.

Last-last night I bought a home fragrance diffuser from The Body Shop. This was supposed to have been a gift. However, I left my spare ta'ape (bluestripe snapper) in the classroom overnight, marinating in its own juices on my desktop. Suffice to say I will replace the gift at a later time because I really, really needed the classroom to not smell like fish yesterday.

Went to HomeWorld on a whim in the afternoon. Loved a bedroom set in the KIDS' department. (A dresser and cool-looking hutch together were cheaper than a much uglier "adult" dresser.) The only drawback was that it was a little ... low to the ground. So, still looking.

Gotta go Google private tutoring rates now. I never seem to know how much to charge for my services. Well, no more. I got stuck with an $8/hr babysitting rate for YEARS because I didn't do my homework, and it's not happening again.
